ARTIST BIO/DISCOGRAPHY: Raúl Midón
![]() Raúl Midón (Elements Of Life) Raúl Midón Raúl Midón straddles pop, soul & jazz with a hair-raising, show-stopping voice and dazzling guitar technique. You might say he's a product of his environment - the son of an Argentinean and African American - he benefits from the best of both worlds! He's been called the “spiritually and socially conscious, optimistic” (Miami Herald) new voice for our times. “Achingly tender passion was as proportionately emphasized by Midón's seamless acoustic guitar melodies as were the irony and hopefulness that characterize his compositions.” (Washington Post) “I like to celebrate the possible,” says Midón, “the highest, the best of possibilities for human beings. Collectively, we create an enormously powerful force that can change the world and overcome any obstacle.” His original works “If You Really Want” and “Suddenly” echo these sentiments. Beating the odds and overcoming obstacles is something Midón knows about first hand. Born premature in rural New Mexico, he was blinded after being placed in an incubator with high oxygen levels. After several years as the first call background vocalist in Miami's Latin industry he made the move to New York City. After arriving in the city he began collaborating with DJ/Producer Little Louie Vega (Nuyorican Soul) which resulted in the album "Elements of Life" (Giant Step). Raul continued his solo performances around the city in such notable venues as The Beacon Theater, BAM Opera House and Joe’s Pub. It was there that producer Danny Kapilian heard him and booked him at Carnegie Hall for “The Movie Music of Spike Lee and Terence Blanchard.” His rendition of Stevie Wonder’s “Make Sure You’re Sure” brought the house to its feet led by filmmaker, Spike Lee. In the spring of 2004 he was invited to join The Tour of the Curbside Prophets led by Jason Mraz on a tour of the U.S. and Canada. He has also shared bills with Cassandra Wilson, Dianne Reeves, Public Enemy, Chaka Kahn, Angie Stone, Cesaria Evora, Bebel Gilberto, Jeff Beck, Jamie Cullum and Nellie McKay to name a few! Midón signed a deal with Manhattan Records (EMI), a boutique pop label overseen by Blue Note President Bruce Lundvall and headed by veteran record executive Ian Ralfini. The album slated to be released in early 2005 will be produced by the legendary Arif Mardin (Aretha Franklin, Norah Jones). The New York Times calls him a “virtuoso.” “the singer's raw, immaculate vocal expressions are unforgettable.” (Washington Post), “Stopped the show!” (Newsday) “Anything worth anything starts with an idea, an ‘invisible’ thing,” says Raúl. “You build your universe with your ideas.” To book one of our SW ENTERTAINMENT artists call 201.864.5959 email: smallwondersprod@aol.com |
